NC “Choose Life” Plate
Update: (11/28/11)A federal judge temporarily blocked production of the plate pending court action on a lawsuit filed by the state chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union. As the plate was being approved by the General Assembly, some legislators attempted to add an abortion-rights plate into the bill, but this was voted down. Issuing the “Choose Life” plate without the other is the basis for their lawsuit.
Update: (06/30/11) HB289 was signed into law by the governor approving new specialty tags including the “Choose Life” plate .

To show their enthusiastic support during the 2009-2010 session, local volunteers reached out to friends and neighbors in more than 200 cities and towns across the state to ask for their signature in favor of HB 168—”Choose Life” Special Plate. To date, North Carolina has approved more than 130 custom tags for various causes and recreational activities, but has not allowed a vote on the Carolina Pregnancy Care Fellowship request.
