Building Better Business: An Interview with SEO Expert Blair Witkowski
How one manโs journey from rustic furniture to digital dominance is reshaping how North Carolina contractors grow online.
Blair Witkowski doesnโt fit the mold of your average tech entrepreneur.
Heโs a lifelong outdoorsman, father of nine, former woodworker, and a guy who still runs every single day โ even after surviving 11 days on a ventilator during COVID. But behind that grit is also one of the most effective, forward-thinking minds in local SEO and digital marketing in America.
With the recent launch of the North Carolina Contractors Network โ a statewide directory aimed at helping homeowners find the best home service pros โ Blair is bringing his nationally tested digital strategy right to Charlotteโs backyard.
We sat down with Blair for a raw, insightful conversation about building businesses, raising a family, and why expanding your digital footprint is the smartest move a contractor can make right now.
Why North Carolina?
Q: Youโve worked with businesses all over the country, but recently launched a contractor network focused entirely on North Carolina. Why here?
Blair: I love North Carolina. Iโve hiked the Blue Ridge Mountains, vacationed here for years, and two of my kids went to college here โ Belmont Abbey and Wake Forest. One of my sons even lives in Gastonia and works with me now. I know the area, the landscape, the cities โ which is huge for SEO. You canโt fake local knowledge.

What Sets You Apart in Digital Marketing?
Q: Youโre in one of the most competitive industries out there โ what makes your approach to SEO and digital marketing actually work?
Blair: Everyone thinks itโs a crowded space, but truthfully, most agencies arenโt doing it right. Theyโre using outdated tactics or outsourcing everything. What sets us apart is that Iโm involved in every campaign, and our in-house teams handle everything. No third parties. We test constantly on our own sites so we already know what works before touching a clientโs website.
The Power of Going Niche
Q: Why focus on niche agencies like Garage Door SEO Experts, GutterPro Marketing Labs, and now the NC Contractors Network?
Blair: Itโs twofold. When you specialize, operations become leaner and more effective. But more importantly, when you know an industry โ like, really understand the day-to-day โ you can deliver better results. These clients rely on me to help keep their businesses running. Thatโs not a responsibility I take lightly.
How Youโre Using AI
Q: Letโs talk AI. How are you staying ahead of the curve with all the changes in search and automation?
Blair: I love AI. Itโs a tool โ a smart one โ but itโs not magic. Too many people lean on it exclusively and get bad results. What excites me most is AI Search. When someone looks for โgutter cleaning in Charlotte,โ theyโre not just getting a list of links anymore โ theyโre seeing an AI-generated answer. If your business is optimized correctly, you can own that answer box and get the customer right then and there. Thatโs gold for a local contractor.
What Does Success Look Like for Your Clients?
Q: Youโve helped hundreds of businesses grow. What does success actually look like for your clients?
Blair: Itโs simple: predictable growth. Iโve built over 500 websites and done SEO for hundreds of companies. Success is when your business consistently brings in leads, grows revenue, and gives you freedom to plan your future โ not just survive month to month.
Your First SEO Experience
Q: What was your first taste of digital marketing?
Blair: Honestly? Selling cars. I used to run a small used car dealership and sold collectible BMWs. If you didnโt have the right listings and didnโt show up in search, you lost money. That was back in 2008 โ before Facebook Marketplace, before automation. You had to hustle. I built my first site in 2000 using Microsoft FrontPage. Real old-school stuff.
Running a Family Business in a Tech World
Q: And now your family is in the business too?
Blair: Yeah, itโs the best part. My wife Jennifer is our content editor, and my oldest son works with me full-time. Iโve been working from home for over eight years โ before it was cool. We homeschool some of our kids, and I love getting to have lunch with my wife every day. Itโs not always easy, but itโs meaningful.
What Makes the NC Contractors Network Different?
Q: What exactly is the North Carolina Contractors Network, and who is it for?
Blair: If youโre a home service contractor โ builder, plumber, electrician โ and you take real pride in your work, this is for you. We created the directory to highlight the best of the best in North Carolina. Itโs free to join, but we vet every listing. From an SEO perspective, these kinds of trusted, niche directories are gold for your visibility โ both to homeowners and to search engines.

Blair’s Top SEO Advice for Charlotte Business Owners
Q: If you could give one piece of digital marketing advice to a Charlotte business owner, what would it be?
Blair: Expand your brand. Thatโs the number one thing. Search engines need to know who you are, what you do, and where you do it. That comes from growing your digital footprint โ listings, directories, content, social, maps, all of it. You donโt need to be everywhere. Just visible where it counts.
What Itโs Like to Work With You
Q: What do you want people to know about working with you?
Blair: They should expect success. I take the time to truly understand your business and figure out how to move the needle. This isnโt just traffic or rankings โ Iโm helping you grow, hire, and make real profit. Thatโs what itโs all about.
